Chinese Beef Stock Import Ban in South Korea

South Korea announced that it was effecting a ban on the import of Chinese beef stock on the grounds that it was contaminated with a harmful chemical called Clenbuterol. The South Korean food ministry said that the temporary ban on the import of Chinese beef stock used widely to prepare soups would take effect from Tuesday. Clenbuterol is known to increase pulse rate abnormally, cause stomachache and heart disorders. Though the chemical can be used to treat asthma under medical supervision, South Korea bans the use of Clenbuterol to enhance muscle in livestock. China was under the scanner for its milk products tainted with melamine very recently.
